About Brenda

Brenda Patterson has always believed that travel is less about rushing to the next place and more about savoring the journey that gets you there. That belief is the heartbeat of Rails, Rooms & Really Good Food.

Before she ever filmed a train ride or reviewed a cozy inn, Brenda spent years shaping the character of downtown Clayton, Georgia. She restored a historic 1920s building and transformed it into The White Birch Inn, a boutique stay known for its handcrafted charm. She later opened White Birch Provisions, a coffee house and bakery loved by locals, and The Watchmaker’s Workspace, a coworking studio designed for creativity and connection.

Her background in design and hospitality shows up everywhere she goes. Brenda notices the details — the way a room feels when you walk in, the personality of a small-town café, the magic of a sunrise from a sleeper car window.

Through her stories, she invites you to travel the way she does: slowly, warmly, and with an appetite for discovery.

How It Started

Brenda’s love for trains stems way back to when she was a small child growing up in PA. Christmas time would bring such pleasure, excitement and anticipation as the family would set up their Lionel Train set and accompanying winter scene around the tree, endlessly watching it go round and round.

In 1969 her family took the train across the country from PA to CA to visit Yosemite National Park and Disneyland. Strong happy memories of that trip have stayed with her for a lifetime.

To compound that, her mother told stories over and over about her childhood train trip across the country for 7 weeks during the depression.

So, trains and train travel have always been in her blood.

As an adult, with an increasing fear of flying, whenever possible, choosing train travel over a flight has always been preferred.

In the 90’s, she loved watching travel shows on TV with Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern and Samatha Brown, sparking an interest in maybe creating and hosting her own travel show one day, except, exclusively for train travel. So the idea and creation of Rails, Rooms and Really Good Food has been a lifelong dream, and is finally coming to fruition.
